Mikel Navarro, is Professor of Economics at Deusto Business School, University of Deusto, and Senior Researcher at Orkestra-Basque Institute for Competitiveness.
He specializes in topics of industrial competitiveness and innovation systems, fields in which he has published fifteen books and more than fifty articles and scientific collaborations, both in national and international publications. He is a member of the Mirror Group of the “Smart Specialization Platform” organized by the European Commission and is part of the editorial board of Ekonomiaz, a magazine for which he has coordinated three case-specific issues (on clusters, regional innovation systems and intelligent specialization strategies).
He gave a brief introduction to the literature on regional innovation systems, and then presented the success factors of the case of the Basque Country, and some general ideas about other regions of Spain. Mikel Navarro gave us his vision on regional innovation policies, as well as his reflections on the experience of Orkestra-Basque Institute of Competitiveness in this area.
